MAN4MACHINENPSC
National Pipe Straight Coupling
A straight internal thread cut inside couplings and similar fittings, sized to mate with a standard tapered NPT male. It's hybrid by pairing: a straight female thread engaging a tapered male, used for low-pressure structural assembly rather than a gauge-tight seal.
- Standard
- ANSI/ASME B1.20.1
- Flank angle
- 60° included
- Sealing
- Structural thread engagement only; the actual pressure seal, if any, is made by the tapered NPT male it mates with.

Thread profile
A 60° included flank angle with a flat-truncated crest and root -- the single fastest way to tell a Unified/American pipe thread from the other family by eye.
Cut straight: the pitch diameter is constant along the full thread length, with no taper.

Tap drill calculator
NPSC is hybrid: engagement here depends on how far the joint is driven onto the taper, not diameter alone. Treat this as a straight-thread approximation and check ANSI/ASME B1.20.1 or your tap manufacturer’s chart before cutting production parts.
